José Miguel Iribas

Sociologist whose area of expertise is territorial, urban architectural and touristic analysis and planning. Until 1990, he was chairman of the Benidorm Advisory Council and simultaneously directed work on the city’s master zoning plan. Iribas has collaborated on more than 50 urban planning projects and worked together with municipal planning departments in Valencia, Asturias, Extremadura, Galicia, Rioja, Cantabria and Catalonia, and is the City of Valencia’s director of spatial planning for tourism and co-author of the White Book (Libro Blanco) of the Valencia Coast. He is the author of more than 100 studies having to do with tourism and urban development. Iribas has served as a consultant on government and private-sector projects in Spain and abroad (Algeria, Columbia, Morocco, Taiwan, Brazil) and is professor of sociology at the University of Alicante. He has also taught in numerous masters programs in the field of urban planning and tourism. Iribas has published 23 books.
